Beautiful Steam Trains

The sleek new maglev trains are amazing, but as far as I'm concerned you can't beat the style of the antique steam train. Just take a look at the Botchan Train at Dogo Station in Matsuyama, Japan. Botchan is a famous novel by Soseki, who lived in Matsuyama during the Meiji Era, 1868-1912. The light rail passenger train was modelled on the steam trains of that period, and travels around the city.

Here's a beautiful 1:8 scale steam train running on a miniature track at the Finnish Railway Museum (Suomen Rautatiemuseo) in Hyvinkää, Finland. Wouldn't you love to have a wonderful model train set like that? You can have a ride if you visit the museum in the summer. They have some incredible trains on display there, including the only surviving imperial train of the last Russian Emperor.
